On the morning of March 10, 2023, Professor Shan Guangliang, head of the Department of Epidemiology and Health Statistics of Peking Union Medical College/Institute of Basic Medicine of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Professor Wang Li, doctoral supervisor, were invited to give academic reports in the lecture hall on the third floor of the School of Public Health of Jilin University. The meeting was chaired by Professor Liu Yawen, Dean of the School of Public Health at Jilin University. Dean Liu Yawen introduced two outstanding alumni and expressed welcome and gratitude for their arrival. In the lecture, Professor Shan Guangliang carried out a report entitled "The Concept and Practice of Modern cohort study", summarized the existing conceptual misunderstandings and problems of cohort study, and shared various experiences of large-scale cohort study in terms of design, organization and implementation. Under the title of "Heterogeneity, adverse outcomes and prevention of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: evidence from the cohort study", Professor Wang Li described the research progress of the research group on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease based on the Kailuan cohort in recent years, introduced the research content based on the cohort study from the perspective of specific examples, and provided ideas for the mechanism research, precise prevention and control of NAFLD.

Teachers and graduate students from the Department of Preventive Medicine at the School of Public Health attended two professors' lectures. At the meeting, Professor Yang Shuman from the Teaching and Research Section of Epidemiology and Health Statistics had a professional discussion with Professor Shan Guangliang on the establishment basis and design details of large-scale cohort study; Teacher Jiang Jing had a deep discussion with Professor Wang Li on the sample size and case definition criteria in the cohort study of non-alcoholic liver disease, and discussed and exchanged experiences with Professor Shan Guangliang on the organization and implementation of large cohort in Northeast China.

The series of academic lectures brought by experts from the field of epidemiology is rich in content and vivid in narration. The attending teachers and students actively participated in interactive questioning, achieving a complete success. After this lecture, the faculty and students of the college have benefited greatly, broadening their research ideas, and strengthening their responsibility and confidence in building a high-level public health college to promote a healthy China and improve people's health.
