The Information Management section, established in 2005, belongs to the department of Medical Informatics at School of Public Health, Jinlin University. Currently there are two professors and one associate professor in the section, of which two professors are doctoral supervisors, and all three are master supervisors, and all faculties have doctoral degrees. The section has the responsibility for teaching undergraduates and postgraduates (Doctor and Master) in the department of the Information Management and Information System (Medical Information Management).

 

Undergraduates courses include: Principles of Management, Basis of Information Management, Information Resources Organization, Informetrics, Information Analysis and Research, Information Economics, Information Management of Medical Records, English for Professional purpose, and so on. The postgraduate courses include: Medical Informatics Theory and Method, Medical Information Resources Organization, Scientometrics and Evaluation. Medical Knowledge Organization System, Health Information Standard, and so on.

 

In recent years, faculties have served as chief editors or compilers of more than 10 textbooks and monographs, including the Medical Textbooks by Higher Education Press, Textbooks of 11th five-year plan by the People’s Medical Publishing House.

 

The affiliated subject of the Information Management section was approved to grant master degrees of Social Medicine and Health Management in 2001, and started to recruit masters in 2002. In June 2006, it was approved to grant Doctorate degree, and started to recruit doctors in 2007. The secondary discipline that was set up independently (2011) started to recruit masters and doctors of Medical Informatics in September 2013.

 

Faculties have undertaken more than 20 research projects over the years, from multiple sources such as the National Social Science Fundation, National Natural Science Fundation, the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Science Planning Fundation, Jilin Province Social Science Fundation, Department of Jilin Province Technology, Enterprise Funding, and Jilin Province Scientific Research Key Project. Faculties have published over 200 papers in the core journals and won more than 20 prizes for research and teaching achievements. The main research direction are: information resources theory and method, digital information resources organization, informetrics analyze and scientific evaluation, planing and analysis of medical market information, health information users and services, data mining of adverse drug events, drug repositioning, data mining of electronic health records, and so on.
