Faculty: The Information Retrieval Department’s faculty consists of 4 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 1 associate professor and 1 lecturer. We all have doctorate degree. Professor Yunqiu Zhang is a doctoral supervisor, Professosr Shuangcheng Yu and Associate Professor Yuling Li are master tutors. Yong Shen is a lecturer.

Teaching mission: The teaching mission of our department can be mainly divided into two parts.

The first is professional courses set up for students majoring in medical informatics, such as “Information Retrieval Language”, “Medical Literature  Subject Indexing”, “Medical Information Retrieval”, “Medical Data Mining”, “Bioinformatics”, “Evidence-based Medicine Information Resources”, “Consumer Health Informatics” etc.

Besides, our department offers two courses (one is "Medical Information Retrieval" , the other is "Introduction to Medical Research") for students of Bethune Health Science Center.

Research Fields: As for scientific research, our research area is Medical Informatics, specifically，includes Medical Information retrieval, Medical Information Analysis and Prediction, Medical Data Mining, Medical Education, Consumer Health Informatics. And we have stable research interests in Exploratory Search Behaviors Based on Cognitive and Log Analysis, Literature and Patent Based hot spots and Emerging Trends Detection, Non-interactive literature based knowledge discovery, Patent Mining and Patent Strategy Research, Methods in Medical Research and Medical Education, Estimation Methods of the Consumer Familiarity with Chinese Health Terms.

We host or participate in series of projects, including Project of National Social Science Foundation of China, Project of Humanities and Social Science Foundation of Education Ministry, The Japanese Ministry of Education funded project, Science and Technology Department of Jilin Province funded project and some coorperated projects with enterprise.

Publications: In recent 10 years, almost 100 peer reviewed articles have been published in core journals. Besides, we edit or compile over 10 national teaching materials and monographs.

Awards: Our department is an excellent team. Over the years, we have won many honors and awards. For example, In 2012, our team was rewarded as “the Outstanding Teaching Team of Jilin Province”. "Medical Information Retrieval" course was named “the Excellent Course of Jilin Province”. Our faculties were rewarded in Young Teachers' Teaching Competition of Jilin University more than once, and also won the Jilin province Higher Education Teaching Reform  Achievement  Award several times.
